2021 Sporting Car Club Season Launch

The 2021 Season got under way with a non-Championship round at Mallala Motor Sport Park. It gave teams and drivers an opportunity to test the cars after a long off-season of developments and upgrades. Supersprint was a new event for most of the drivers where the cars are released two at a time and the only thing that matters is setting the fastest lap time. There was hardly a moment to rest with most teams entered into 2 practice sessions, 4 supersprints and 4 races on the single day event.

Rhys Rollond made his debut in Formula Vee driving a Spook Mk1, his pace improved significantly throughout the weekend and will be one to watch in the pack when Round 1 of the championship comes around. The newly rebuilt Elfin Crusader of Sel Duce made it’s first on track appearance, some minor technical gremlins interrupted running for Sel through the day but the car will be ready to run once the championship begins. The Season Launch also saw the return of Andrew Roberts in the Gebert 05.

The Adelaide Auto Air entry driven by Adam Newton set the fastest Formula Vee time of the weekend with a 1:19.65, once again getting close to the track record. He set the fastest Vee lap in each session and was first placed Vee in every race, his biggest competition for the weekend was Keith Williamson in a Farrell Clubman. Sean Grimmond was able to have a much-welcomed trouble free weekend in the Infinity Custom Pharmaceuticals car setting consistent lap times and made the most of the seat time after very limited running over the last two seasons.

The opening round of the Formula Vee SA championship is at Mallala Motor Sport Park on March 13.
